  • How far in advance should I organise a removalist?

    The earlier the better, however Dawson’s can accommodate short notice moves as well. With a longer lead time we will better placed to book the move in for the dates you prefer. The best option is when you know you have to move, give Dawson Moving & Storage a call in Melbourne on 03 97630222 and in Canberra on 02 62601214. Our friendly representatives will be able to answer any questions you may have.

  • How do I get a quote for a removal? Does it cost anything?

    Obtaining a quote is as easy as making a phone call or requesting Dawson Moving & Storage  to call you. Dawson’s friendly staff can either provide a quotation over the phone for small moves, or book an in-home inspection with one of our representatives for larger or interstate moves.  There is no cost for a quotation, and you are not obliged to proceed.

  • Is Dawson Moving & Storage a member of AFRA, and is that important?

    The Australian Furniture Removers Association (AFRA) is an official body of removals experts that helps regulate the removals industry. Dawson Moving & Storage is a proud member of AFRA as this shows our high quality and dedication to providing the best possible service to our customers.   • Is the quote a fixed price or an hourly rate?

    That depends! If you are moving interstate it will be a fixed price quotation, generally moving locally it will be a fixed price too. Hourly rates are perfect for those choosing to move all the smaller items themselves and just have Dawson’s transport the large furniture items, or for people with only a small volume of goods to be moved.

  • Can Dawson’s move me interstate?

    Of course!  With our two locations in Melbourne and Canberra, and a nationwide network of accredited agents Dawson Moving & Storage have been helping families and individuals move interstate for decades.  The majority of interstate moves undertaken by Dawson’s utilise shipping containers, cutting out the double handling of your goods.

  • How long will my move take?

    Local moves

    The length of time that a removal takes varies greatly.  Many factors must be considered such as the volume of goods to be moved, what access is like to the uplift and delivery addresses, are there stairs or lifts involved?  By having a representative visit your home, Dawson’s will be best placed to provide a time frame.

    Interstate moves

    There are many factors to be considered, with the main one being your destination.  The average time frame for an interstate move is 3-5 days.  The earlier your removal is arranged can often assist in a shorter time frame.  Also the volume of goods to be moved will be a factor.

  • What happens if I have settlement on the day I want to move?

    Moving on settlement day can be easily achieved.   We would suggest that you do have a representative visit your home so that we know exactly what is involved to ensure that you are vacated prior to settlement going through.

    We would ask that once you are made aware of your settlement time by your conveyancer that you contact our Melbourne office on 03 97630222 or our Canberra office on 02 626201214.  This information will be used by the operations team when scheduling the day’s run sheet.

  • Can Dawson’s provide storage?

    Yes!  Dawson Moving & Storage can provide long or short term storage in our secure facilities in Melbourne and Canberra.

  • How long can I store my furniture for?

    There may just be a few days between uplift and delivery days, or you may be heading overseas for a few years – we can easily accommodate the storage you require, for however long it is needed.

  • What happens if the volume of goods I need to move changes?

    If there is a change in the volume between receiving your quote and the move day please make contact with our friendly office staff.  We will review your quotation and make any necessary changes.

  • What is transit insurance, and is it important?

    Whilst every care is taken with your belongings, things can go wrong and accidents do sometimes happen.  There are a wide variety of unforeseen circumstances that can occur for which we will not be liable.

    Dawson Moving & Storage Pty Ltd as part of our complete removal services will provide the specialized Customer Goods in Transit and Storage Insurance Policy you may require. Our policies have been designed to comply with the Financial Services Reform Act 2001, in which we are authorized representatives for Aldridge & Street A Division of Cowden (Vic) Pty Ltd (AFSL 245658) a licensed insurance broker. We have over 70 years experience of moving and storing our customers’ possessions and offer the most comprehensive cover available today.

  • How is my furniture protected in the truck or shipping container?

    When your furniture is loaded into the truck or shipping container by our experienced and trained removalists, furniture blankets and protective covers are used.  These are supplied as part of your removal at no extra cost to you.

  • Will Dawson’s pack all my belongings?

    Dawson’s can pack as little or as much as you would like!  Speak with our friendly representatives to obtain a quotation for our packing services.

  • How do I pack things if I’ve chosen to pack everything myself?

    Packing one room at a time, use the right size boxes, use plenty of tape and packing paper!

  • Is there anything Dawson’s won’t move?

    For safety reasons we are not permitted to carry flammable items, poisonous, toxic or corrosive liquids.  If you are concerned about any items please contact our friendly staff for clarification.

  • Can Dawson’s move my piano/pool table?

    Yes we can!

  • Can Dawson’s move my car/motorbike?

    With our vehicle transportation team, CEVA Logistics, we can transport your car or motorbike nationwide.

  • Can Dawson’s move my pets?

    With our pet transportation team, Dogtainers, we can transport your furry friends nation-wide.

  • Do Dawson’s provide a house cleaning service?

    The last thing most people want to do is clean their old house – don’t worry we can arrange that for you!  Speak with our friendly staff to arrange any cleaning needs you may have.

  • What is the best advice you can give me for moving?

    Pack a priority carton with important papers, tv remotes, medications, kettle, tea & coffee (or something stronger :)) and make your beds first thing in the new house!
